Our recent youth conference was a powerful gathering of voices and ideas
From the Municipal National Youth Authority Director our keynote speaker, inspiring us with a call to empower young people through skills, confidence, and participation in community policies, while stressing support for persons with disabilities and mentorship opportunities.
The review of the draft report of the Youth Status Report revealed challenges in:
- Youth with Disabilities: Limited job access & exclusion from support funds.
- Women & Girls: Barriers like early marriage, domestic violence, and lack of equal opportunities.
- Healthcare: High costs, limited insurance, stigma, and inadequate facilities.
Participants proposed these strategies for growth during the breakout sessions:
- Advocacy & transparency for persons with disabilities.
- Improved healthcare services & wider NHIS coverage.
- Equal education & employment opportunities for women and girls, plus safe reporting desks for harassment.
